The Portsmouth Brewery, New Hampshire’s original brewpub, has been serving great food and outstanding handcrafted beers in a friendly, lively atmosphere since 1991.
Many folks visit the Brewery, look through the glass windows, see a lot of shiny tanks, hoses and gizmos, scratch their heads and wonder what they are looking at. What they are looking at is the heart and soul of this business, the reason for our existence as a company. We run tours of our brewery every other day or so, because we want people to know all about how their beer is made.
We brew around 1,200 barrels a year. This is about 37,000 gallons, or 300,000 pints’ worth. Placed side-by-side, that would form a line of beer glasses that would stretch from our front door all the way to Seabrook, over sixteen miles away!
The brew length (batch size) of our brewery is seven barrels, or 217 gallons – the equivalent of 14 kegs or about 1,700 pints of beer. We bottle limited amounts of beer in 22-ounce “bomber“ bottles, half-gallon growlers and 32-ounce refillable “squealers.” These are available in our retail store and at the bar.
